LEXICOLOGY
Hello guys
My name is irma rizkyana
I want to explain about lexicology with this video . Lets check it out !!!
What is Lexicology?
Lexicology is the study of the history and structure of a language's vocabulary. Lexicology is a part of linguistics that studies words.
2 Types of lexicology
General lexicology and special lexicology:
1. General lexicology deals with the study of vocabulary regardless of the specific features of a particular language.
2. Special lexicology is the lexicology of certain languages (Azerbaijani, English, Russian, German, French, etc.). It is based on general lexicological principles and is established by general lexicology of vocabulary. According to the theological basis of the vocabulary of various languages there are
3 types of lexicology:
-Historical Lexicology
relating to the historical change of words in the course of language development.
-Descriptive Lexicology
relating to the language vocabulary given at certain time periods.
-Contrastive Lexicology
learn languages from the point of view of their identity and differences
Related to lexicology there are several terms that we must understand such as:
1. Lexicon
A collection of words that every language speaker has
You hear someone say "morpheme" and you don't know about that word. Because you do not know what is called "the smallest unit of linguistic meaning", then you do not know the word "morpheme" Dealing with this problem, we can conclude that certain sounds (morphemes), for example, must be united with meanings, and meanings must be united with certain sounds so that sound or meaning becomes a word in our mental dictionary (mental lexicons)
Once we learn the sound and its meaning, we know the word. It becomes an entry in our mental lexicon In order to be understood, when the words in our lexicon enter speech, they need space or pauses between words.
Someone who does not know English, will not know where a word starts or ends with a greeting. This fact proves that without knowledge of language, one cannot say how many words are in speech.
2. Lexeme
The basic unit of the lexicon of a language
(collection of words / mental dictionaries) of a language called lexemes. Lexeme, automatically has a correlation with words. WHAT IS "WORD"?
Words can be defined as speech sounds or sound combinations, or their representation in writing, which symbolizes and communicates meaning and can consist of one single morpheme or a combination of morphemes.
The Lexemes example examines the words:
The words eat, eats, eating, ate and eaten are forms of the lexeme EAT.
The words drink, drinks, drinking, drank, and drunk are a form of Lexeme DRINK
3. Lexicography
is a branch of linguistics that studies the techniques of dictionary preparation. Activities involved in lexicography include the design, compilation, use, and evaluation of a dictionary.
4. Lexicographer
dictionary writer or editor
The purpose of Lexicology is to determine the essence of words.
1. Lexicology studies word formation, semasiology, etymological characteristics of words, unit phrases, lexicography, and so on.
2. Lexicology deals with vocabulary features and characteristics of words and groups of words.
-The term "vocabulary" is used to indicate the word system and group of words that a language has
-The term "word" indicates the main lexical unit of language that results from the association of a group of sounds with meaning.
-The term grup group-word 'denotes a group of words that exist in the language as ready-to-use units, having a unity of meaning, a syntactic function unity.
